This year at Code Conference, co-hosts Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg focused on the current convergence of tech, media and politics. For starters, we’re coming out of a presidential election where two of the biggest issues centered around email-server management and hacking, and where Twitter and Facebook played central roles in messaging and news platforms. Tech is no longer siloed — it has infiltrated every aspect of our lives, including our democracy.
The annual invitation-only Code Conference brings together a global community of the biggest names in the business, executive leaders and startups with bright futures for networking and in-depth conversations about the current and future impact of digital technology.
Over the span of three days, Code 2017 featured more than 30 industry luminaries, including former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Andreessen Horowitz founder and general partner Marc Andreessen, Greylock partner and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards, Netflix co-founder and CEO Reed Hastings, and many more who stepped up to be interviewed onstage. Guest speakers offered fresh insights and perspectives on topics ranging from net neutrality, the relationship between content and distribution platforms, ethical design, biohacking and commercial drones. More than 650 C-suite executives attended, and 550 companies participated.
650 global C-suite executives from the largest global media organizations, tech companies and startups with bright futures.
To name a few …
Blue Note Records
Dollar Shave Club
Code Intensives offer a deep dive into pioneering topics and ideas designed to stimulate new ways of thinking about your work, your teams and your life. Learn how a “design sprint” can help your team collectively solve problems, watch food scientists turn water into wine, get hands-on training with operating drones and determine whether legalized marijuana might impact your own business. We’ve designed sessions to stimulate analytical “left brain” activity and intuitive “right brain” thinking: Left-brain sessions will draw on data and research to foster critical discussion; right-brain sessions offer participants an experience, using hands-on activities and visual aids to engage participants’ innate creativity. All sessions are designed to give industry leaders like you a first glimpse into cutting-edge research in biohacking, space technology, the science of longevity and more.
Code Conference is an invitation-only annual event for senior executives in the digital technology ecosystem. The event’s organizers develop invitations based on a broad set of criteria to insure diversity both at the attendee level and at the organizational level.

The southern California Pacific Coast enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate with over 300 days of sunshine per year. Summers are dry due to a semi-permanent high-pressure system that sits in the Pacific Ocean and holds storm tracks well to the north. Warm air moving over the cool ocean in summer creates fog that moves in during the evening and early morning hours but almost always dissipates by midday.
The average year-round high temperature is 65°F (19°C). The average temperatures in late May and early June range from the low 70’s during the day to the high 50’s at night.
To apply for a media credential for Code Conference, please complete the application here. There are only a small number of press passes given out and an application/submission does not guarantee a pass.
Media, Recording & Photography Policy
Code Conference stage is on the record for journalistic and editorial purposes. Journalists may quote anything the speakers and Executive Producers say onstage in stories or blog posts. Interviews that occur offstage in the hallways or at social gatherings are subject to whatever ground rules are agreed upon between parties at the time of the interview.
Still photos, taken from your seats, are OK. We ask that you do not use flash so as not to distract or annoy the speakers or others in attendance. Do not stand or crouch in the aisles or near the stage, as this interferes with our official show photographer, whose photos will be posted online for use by members of the media.
Finally, video and audio recordings are strictly prohibited, as we consider the audio and video content of our stage to be copyrighted. Similarly, while we respect fair-use reprinting of short text quotes, we do consider full transcripts of the conference to be our intellectual property.
This policy applies to all conference attendees.
